Texas judge orders new election after GOP lawsuit

In a significant ruling, a Texas judge has sided with a Republican candidate who contested the outcome of a 2022 judicial race.

The judge has mandated a new election to be conducted in Harris County, the third-most populous county in the nation and a stronghold for Democrats, where Republican efforts have been ongoing to influence the voting process.

The lawsuit

The lawsuit was filed by a Republican candidate, Tami Pierce, who lost the November 2022 judicial race for a criminal court judge position in Harris County to the Democratic incumbent, DaSean Jones, by a margin of 449 votes.
