Marine At Center Of Probe Accuses Pentagon Of Covering Up Evidence

In a supplementary investigation concerning a fatal suicide bombing during the 2021 U.S. military withdrawal from Afghanistan, a Marine raised allegations against the Pentagon, claiming that they had concealed information indicating that the incident could have been prevented.

Former Sgt. Tyler Vargas-Andrews caused a commotion when he testified in March 2023 that he and others on the ground had identified an individual near Abbey Gate as the potential suicide bomber while he was in the guard tower, but were not allowed to take action.

Following CENTCOM’s initiation of a new inquiry into his claims, which failed to substantiate them, the former sniper informed the Daily Caller News Foundation that he acknowledged the individual suspected of being the bomber at the time was different from the person the Pentagon had recently identified as the perpetrator.
