Backlash Forces School to Cancel Lesson On Gender And Pronouns

Following criticism from members of the community, Dewitt Public Schools Superintendent Shanna Spickard announced that a Michigan school district has decided to cancel a scheduled elementary classroom session on gender identity and pronouns.

The district had initially introduced the lesson as an optional session for a first-grade class, separate from the regular school curriculum to “promote greater understanding, compassion, and kindness regarding gender identity and the use of pronouns.”

The district stated that it had notified parents and guardians ahead of time about the lesson, giving them the chance to choose whether or not their children would take part.
